Mumbai heavy rain: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai in Next 24 Hours

Mumbai heavy rain: Mumbai which is battling waterlogged roads, traffic jams will be receiving more rains in the coming hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intermittent rain in the city and the suburbs over the next 24 hours. The weather department also said that there is a possibility of isolated heavy showers in the suburbs. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain has also been predicted for Konkan and Goa.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over the Gujarat region, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Karnataka and Kerala for the next 24 hours. Mumbai and surrounding areas on Saturday witnessed heavy rainfall. An Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official had said that rain activity is likely to continue for the next four to five days due to an offshore trough that has become active.

As a precautionary measure, BMC has been put on alert as rain causes water logging in many areas of the city.  The Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency had predicted that rainfall intensity will witness an increase from today. However, it will not be a continuous affair and its (rainfall) intensity will vary from place to place.

“Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are likely to receive rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Tuesday and at a few places on Wednesday. Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Raigad areas are likely to receive rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on both the days,” said an IMD official.

This year, the southwest monsoon reached Mumbai on June 9, a day earlier than normal and since June 1 the Colaba observatory has recorded 432.3mm of rains while the Santacruz observatory has recorded 406.9 mm of rain till date.
