Maratha Krantimorcha to go for Maharashtra bandh on Thursday, Mumbai Exempted
Maratha Krantimorcha: Maratha outfits have held a meeting at Aurangabad and decided that they will go ahead with a bandh tomorrow across the state, except in Mumbai, for seeking reservations.
In Mumbai, which witnessed a lot of violence during the last bandh held on July 25, the protesters have decided to stage only a demonstration at Bandra (Maratha Krantimorcha)
The move comes even after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government would give a reservation to the community before the end of November. The Chief Minister had also said that the mega recruitment of 72,000 employees in the state government will not be done till the Maratha reservation issue is not solved.
Following the meeting a few Maratha outfit leaders were having second thoughts of going for the state wide bandh considering that the two week agitation had become violent with many lives lost. However they eventually backed down after other Maratha outfit leaders said that they should put pressure on the government and go in for a bandh.
While Maratha outfit leaders have called for a peaceful bandh, within the community itself there are many who doubt it. “I have got calls from youngsters saying we are going to damage buses and all, I told them to just protest outside zilla parishad offices peacefully, however they are saying that we listened to you for two years when we took out peaceful morchas ,let us do this. “Said a Maratha community leader.
The division in the Maratha community ranks is also seen in Navi Mumbai where while one Maratha outfit has said that they would not go for a bandh as a smilar call a fortnight back became violent and uncontrollable, another outfit said that they would go for a Navi Mumbai bandh.
Mumbai was by and large peaceful during the July 25th bandh call, however several Maratha leaders said things may be different this time. Meanwhile industries in Pune have decided to remain shut, companies in Pune face a load shedding on Thursdays so they have preferred to remain shut. (Maratha Krantimorcha)
Educational and other institutions in many parts of the state barring Mumbai have also said that they would remain shut. The Maharasthra government has cancelled all leaves of policemen and will deploy central forces in the state to ensure peace said government officials.
